Long Nights, Short Days and Holiday Festivities

As fall morphs into winter, our lives fill with holiday activity.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukkah, Quanza or nothing, we at CFG wish you the best for the holiday season and a happy new year.

Come join us on theFertility Planit”

Fertility Planit is a first-of-its-kind patient-centric event slated to take place on the weekend of January 12th and 13th at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.  Part convention, part lecture series, part community activity, over 1,000 people are expected to attend this exciting affair. With more than 60 expert speakers and major support from across the field of fertility, the event promises to be informative, inspiring and fun.  The range of topics to be discussed includes IVF, male infertility, fertility diet, yoga, lifestyle factors and infertility, adoption, sexuality and much more.

CFG is honored to be part of the show with Dr. Winkler present on Saturday and Dr. Kalan talking about egg donation on Sunday.  Additionally, the CFG staff will have a booth present for both days of the show.

If you are interested in attending, more information can be obtained at the fertility planit website (www.fertilityplanit.com) or by calling (415) 516-4544. Also, CFG has a number of coupons for discounted entry into the show.  If you would like one give us a call here at the office (818)881-9800.  We hope to see you there!

Public Lecture Series

On January 23rd at 6 pm, Drs. Winkler and Kalan will continue their public speaking series with a lecture entitled “Everything You Need to Know About Fertility.”

This lecture is designed to cover the basics of normal reproductive function in a clear easy to understand format.  Additionally, the doctors will discuss common causes of infertility and the variety of treatment options available to our patients.  The lecture will take place at the Eden Surgical and Wellness Center in Calabasas and is open to the public. RSVP to Paula at (818) 881-9800.

Egg freezing, is it an option for you?

Fertility preservation has always occupied a special niche in our practice here at CFG.  We are proud to offer our patients the widest variety of options available anywhere.  These options include sperm freezing, embryo freezing, oocyte freezing and even ovarian tissue freezing.  Depending on a patient’s specific situation, some of the options may be better suited than others.

Importantly, in October, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) lifted the “experimental” label off of egg freezing.  While egg freezing has been available for a number of years, there is now substantial evidence supporting it as an effective option for women who need to delay child-bearing.  The ASRM’s decision is specifically aimed at women with malignancy, but we can also extrapolate the information to women who need to delay childbearing for other reasons.

If you have questions about fertility preservation, one of our doctors would be happy to discuss it with you, give us a call anytime.

Support the FAMILY ACT

With all the rancor and bickering in Washington nowadays, you may be surprised that there is currently a bill being considered that is very important to anyone who has ever experienced infertility.  The Family Act is a bill designed to provide a $13,360 tax credit that matches up to half the expenses for fertility treatment.  This bill would make fertility treatment available to many people for which it would otherwise be too expensive.  Additionally, it could help many patients put their dollars towards their families instead of towards trying to build a family.  To support the act, call your US representative at 202-225-3121.  Also, you can find more information at www.resolve.org/familyact.
