Challenges with IVF
At the Center for Fertility and Gynecology in Los Angeles California, we have experience in managing thousands of IVF cycles. Through that experience we have seen just about every possible misstep and challenge associated with IVF. Be it a dog bite, missing appointments due to jail time, medication not working because it was injected into a “butt implant” or newly discovered spousal infidelity, we have seen and managed it all!
When one considers these extreme challenges, the more mundane problems of confusion over medication or missed appointments become easier to handle. In fact, the way a practice handles challenges is as important as its' success rates in determining its’ worth.
In our practice, a few specific principles help us handle any challenge:
1. Availability:
We are here for you. A doctor is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (just like Denny’s). Moreover, we pride ourselves on the conscientious manner in which we return phone calls and maintain contact with our patients. By being available, we handle many challenges by avoiding them.
2. Flexibility:
Our practice is big enough that we maintain our own laboratory and have a robust presence in the community. It is not so big however; that we cannot customize treatment plans or manipulate schedules to fit each patient. A perfect example of this is the fact that our practice does not utilize cycle “batching.” Batching is the practice of using birth control pills to get a group of patients to start an IVF cycle at the same time. Batching makes the doctors and employees schedules more predictable, but it does not necessarily help the patient. At CFG, we do not batch because sometimes it is preferable to use a patient’s natural cycle, than one imposed upon them by birth control pills.
3. Knowledge/ Experience:
After performing thousands of cycles, our doctors know how to spot a challenge before it starts. By anticipating a challenge, we can take steps to change course and avoid problems. In the event that a problem does occur, experience in recognizing, and correcting the problem is invaluable.
If you are considering IVF or any fertility treatment, be sure that your doctor is up to the challenge. Contact us, we are happy to speak with you.
