If you’re having trouble starting a family or growing your family, you may want to consider in vitro fertilization (IVF). This popular fertility procedure has helped many couples and individuals have their first child or bring even more joy into their lives.

Many people who are dealing with infertility have questions about IVF and how it works.

Below are some answers to common questions people have about IVF. If you want more information, you can always reach out to our offices in Tarzana, Thousand Oaks, Encino, Torrance, or Bakersfield, CA. We are proud to help inform, educate, and assist people in the greater Los Angeles area.

What Is IVF?

IVF is a procedure in which a woman’s eggs can be fertilized outside of her body. People turn to IVF to help conceive when they are unable to become pregnant through natural or conservative methods.

IVF is one of the most commonly performed procedures at our facilities.

How Does IVF Work?

In simple terms, IVF follows these steps:

  1. A woman is given fertility drugs that stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs.
  2. When the eggs are mature, an injection is administered to trigger ovulation.
  3. The mature eggs are retrieved using special ultrasound-guided techniques.
  4. In a lab setting, the harvested eggs are fertilized using sperm from a partner or donor.
  5. When the eggs have developed into embryos, they are transferred back to the woman to achieve pregnancy.

How Much Does IVF Cost?

The overall cost of an IVF cycle can vary based on a number of factors. Below is a table of our current pricing. We can discuss the cost of your treatment as part of the consultation process.

Type of Service Cost
Natural IVF Cycle $9,500.00*
Mini IVF Cycle $10,900.00*
Single Traditional Cycle $12,900.00*
Traditional Cycle with Egg Donation*  $14,900.00*
Egg Freezing (One Cycle) $6,500.00**
Egg Freezing (Low Cost Two-Cycle) $8,900.00**
Egg Freezing (Low Cost Three-Cycle) $11,300.00**

*Please note that ADDITIONAL FEES MAY APPLY based on your unique needs.

** Egg Freezing Operating room/anesthesia  + vitrification fees are additional.

Who Is a Candidate for IVF?

Good candidates for IVF are couples and individuals who have been unable to conceive through normal intercourse for at least one year.

Is There an Ideal Age Range for IVF?

Generally speaking, IVF tends to be most effective when performed on women under the age of 40. That said, there are numerous factors that affect the viability of an embryo, and it is possible for women over 40 to have a viable pregnancy and healthy child thanks to IVF.

If you are concerned about your age and if IVF is right for you, our doctors can help you consider the various risks and health factors before you make your decision. There are also alternatives to IVF that may be better suited to your situation and stage in life.

How Successful Is IVF?

IVF live birth success rates vary based on a number of factors. We have noticed good rates of success at our practice compared to national averages as demonstrated by the bar graph below.
