Improving Your Chances of Becoming a Parent with Male Factor Infertility Treatment

Male Factor Infertility Dysfunction of the male reproductive system contributes to infertility in up to 40% of cases. Because of this high prevalence, we at CFG comprehensively evaluate both the male and female partners during our infertility work-up. This evaluation begins with a detailed medical history and semen analysis, followed by more specialized sperm and hormone testing if necessary.

One of these specialized tests, the Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay (SCSA), identifies subtle abnormalities in the DNA structure of sperm. If SCSA is found to be abnormal, we employ cutting edge technologies such as PICSI dish aided sperm selection, or testicular sperm extraction (TESE) to greatly improve chances for success. In fact, our center recently presented scientific data at the annual meeting of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society which demonstrated our success in using these novel treatments for abnormal SCSA.

A thorough evaluation enables us to quickly identify common male infertility factors as well as rare factors which may have been overlooked at other centers. Occasionally, an underlying medical condition is discovered through this process. In such cases, we counsel our patients on the implications of our findings and refer to appropriate specialists where needed.

If we determine that male factor is present, a variety of treatment modalities are available at our center. These include, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE). Contact our fertility offices or one of the CFG physicians for more information.
